Job Purpose

The GIS Data Engineer is responsible for building and managing geospatial data pipelines, APIs, and feature services that support GSM Outdoors’ internal and customer-facing mapping solutions. They will focus on creating dynamic maps, feature-rich layers, and location-based insights that drive smarter retail planning, marketing campaigns, and product innovation. The GIS Data Engineer will ensure geospatial data is accurate, scalable, and efficiently integrated across platforms while optimizing performance and usability.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain GIS data pipelines to integrate spatial datasets.
  • Manage and optimize spatial databases and feature services (PostGIS, ArcGIS, Mapbox, etc.).
  • Develop and deploy APIs to deliver geospatial data across applications.
  • Design and maintain dynamic maps and feature-rich spatial layers.
  • Ensure accuracy, scalability, and consistency of geospatial data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide location-based insights.
  • Automate geospatial data ingestion, processing, and validation workflows.
  • Conduct spatial analysis to support business intelligence and retail planning.
  • Optimize the performance of geospatial services and applications.
  • Research and implement new geospatial technologies and best practices.

Required Education and Experience

  • Experience with mapping platforms such as ArcGIS Enterprise/Online, QGIS, Mapbox, Google Maps API, Leaflet, and CARTO.
  • Proficiency in geospatial data processing and analysis tools.
  • Ability to design and maintain scalable mapping solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field.
