Job summary

San Dieguito High School Academy in Encinitas, California, seeks a Girls' Basketball Junior Varsity Assistant Coach for the 2026-2027 season. You will help develop fundamentals, uphold sportsmanship, and assist the head coach in practices and games with a focus on student-athlete growth.

Experience coaching youth and knowledge of NFHS/CIF codes preferred. CPR/First Aid/AED certifications must be current, and adherence to school and district rules is required.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental skills and techniques, as well as advanced techniques applicable to the sport.
• Demonstrate the ability to teach, enforce, advocate for, and model appropriate behavior, character development, sportsmanship, and educational values for student-athletes.
• Demonstrate the ability to follow NFHS and CIF codes of conduct.

Responsibilities

• Understand that academics are priority.
• Be alert to student-athletes' academic performance.
• Develop team rules and communicate them with team and parents.
• Provide schedules for practices, tournaments and games.
• Communicate schedule changes promptly.
• Maintain CPR/First Aid certificates and TB clearance.
• Encourage student-athletes to do their best.
• Apply school and team rules equally to all student-athletes.
• Be professional in all actions and words.
• Create a positive environment for the team.
• Communicate with student-athletes about their roles.
• Explain NFHS, CIF, SDUHSD, conference and team rules to students and parents.
• Return parent calls/emails promptly.
• Notify parents quickly about injuries without athletic trainer present.
• Explain vacation/absence policy.
• Allow time for make-up tests during athletic commitments.
• Ensure access to district facilities out of season with AD permission.
• Maintain CIF HOME and MAX PREP stats.
• Input schedule into Arbiter when required.
