Job summary

Dalhart ISD seeks a dedicated coach to instruct and supervise student-athletes, applying varied instructional methods and promoting growth on and off the field. You will work with staff to meet UIL compliance, manage practices, and coordinate events with the Athletic Director.

The role requires a strong focus on safety, discipline, and teamwork, with responsibilities spanning planning, execution, and equipment management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and TEXAS teaching certificate required.
  • CPR/AED certification from a recognized association (to be maintained).
  • Texas CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
  • Knowledge of UIL rules and coaching techniques.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Instruct and supervise student athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Use varied instructional techniques and media to develop student-athlete abilities.
  • Supervise practices, contests, and events to promote growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Collaborate with staff to set goals for students' athletic development.
  • Enforce academic eligibility per UIL guidelines.
  • Ensure Dalhart ISD safety policies during practices, games, and travel.
  • Coordinate scheduling, officials, transportation, and event management.
  • Maintain annual inventory of equipment and uniforms.

Job description

Primary Purpose:

Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sport(s). Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or similar nationally recognized association (to be maintained while holding the position)

Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures

Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules

Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes

Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical (include if bus driving duties are required)

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction
  1. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.
  2. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  3. Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.

Student Growth, Safety, and Administration

  • Enforce and monitor student academic eligibility requirements to ensure compliance with UIL guidelines.
  • Ensure all Dalhart ISD safety policies, board regulations, and student behavior codes are strictly observed during all practices, games, and travel.
  • Coordinate game scheduling, officials, transportation, and event management with the Athletic Director.
  • Maintain, issue, and complete an accurate annual inventory of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
