Job summary

Wooster Middle School is seeking a passionate individual to join our coaching staff as a Girls Assistant Basketball Coach for the upcoming season. The role collaborates closely with the head coach to develop players, run practices, and promote teamwork and sportsmanship.

The assistant coach will guide players, reinforce fundamentals, and support academic balance while contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.

Qualifications

• Previous coaching experience at middle/high school level preferred.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and promote teamwork and sportsmanship.
• Commitment to a positive and inclusive team culture.
• First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Background check may be required prior to employment.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends during the basketball season.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in planning and conducting practices and training sessions.
• Help develop game strategies and provide input on player performance.
• Support recruitment and retention of team members, fostering an inclusive atmosphere.
• Provide individual and group instruction to enhance players' skills and understanding of the game.
• Monitor student-athletes' academic progress and balance academics and athletics.
• Attend practices, games, and team meetings, contributing to a cohesive coaching staff.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team expectations and updates.
• Uphold school policies, athletic guidelines and sportsmanship standards during practices and games.
• Assist in organizing team events, including fundraisers, community service activities, and end-of-season celebrations.
