Job summary

UPMC's Gift Shop is seeking a Clerk I to provide prompt, courteous service and assist customers with gift and flower selections. You will maintain merchandise quality, operate the register, and help with pricing and stocking as needed.

This casual, part-time role (up to 20 hours per week) requires weekend/evening availability, reliable transportation, and a high school diploma. Prior retail experience is preferred; you’ll support multiple hospital sites as needed.

• 1 year of retail sales experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work weekends, evenings.
• Reliable transportation is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, courteous service to customers.

• Open/close the shop and inform management when stock is low.

Schedule: A true casual position for call offs, PTO, etc. can work up to 20 hours per week. The gift shop is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm depending on the hospital. Weekends are included from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, no holidays! Will support Harrisburg, Community, West Shore, and Memorial depending on staffing needs. Reliable transportation is required.

Purpose:

Provides prompt, courteous service to the customers of the gift shop.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain quality control of outgoing merchandise.

• Assist customers with gift/flower suggestions and refers any customer complaints to Manager of Clerk II.

• Work weekends, evenings or holidays as needed.

• Stock candy, magazines and merchandise on a daily basis as necessary.

• Operates cash register and Lottery machine, opens and closes Shop.

• Inform Manager or Clerk II when stock items or supplies are low in need of re-ordering.

• Maintain shop (i.e. dusting, cleaning, rubbish removal) to ensure a safe and aesthetic environment.

• Conform to The Basics of Service Excellence as described in the hospital's orientation program.

• Answer any incoming phone calls and directs calls appropriately.

• Receive incoming merchandise, check invoices, unpack and assist with pricing as directed by Manger or Clerk II.

• Count change bank, Lottery bank and reconciles Lottery receipts at end of day when closing.

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• 1 year of experience in retail sales (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

• Ability to work weekends, evenings.
