Job Description

The Gift Officer, Leadership Giving will play a key role in developing and advancing existing donor relationships and encouraging increased giving through the execution of cultivation and stewardship strategies for prospects and donors to Lurie Children’s.

This front-line fundraising role will work to deepen relationships with donors and prospects and inspiring them to upgrade their philanthropic giving and make Lurie Children’s among their top charitable organizations. The ideal candidate is energetic, proactive, assertive, collaborative, creative, curious and kind-hearted and is excited by fundraising for pediatric care and research.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identify, cultivate and solicit prospects capable of making gifts of $1,000 to $49,999 with a heavy emphasis on retaining/upgrading existing donors and reengaging past donors to meet revenue goals.
  • Requiring significant collaboration with Foundation colleagues, qualify prospects for potential major gift/planned giving capacity and interest. Provide appropriate background on prospects to be assigned to major gift or planned giving portfolios and execute transition thoughtfully.
  • Achieve annual metrics for outreach activities, solicitations, visits utilizing multiple channels (phone, email, virtual, in-person, etc.) along with revenue goals. Support the attainment of Foundation revenue goals with a focus on leadership giving.
  • Partner with Foundation colleagues to leverage existing engagement opportunities which include but are not limited to planned giving outreach, cultivation events, stewardship reports to keep prospects and donors involved and informed of ongoing projects, developments, and advancements at Lurie Children’s. In coordination with Foundation colleagues, periodically execute leadership giving donor events to cultivate, steward, qualify and celebrate philanthropy.
  • Support the Annual Programs Director to develop integrated marketing strategies and tactics for leadership giving segment in direct marketing appeals. As needed, repurpose existing communications to create compelling fundraising proposals to solicit and/or steward leadership giving prospects and donors.
  • Adhere effectively and appropriately to prospect management guidelines by completing contact report updates in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in activities that support the development profession, including speaking at conferences. Keep up to date on emerging trends regarding leadership giving and other philanthropic topics.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or equivalent experience is required.
  • A minimum of five years of fundraising experience required, preferably in academic medical center or healthcare setting. Prior experience in directly engaging constituents for fundraising purposes preferred or experience in sales or related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Poised and engaging, empathetic communications style. Strong commitment to customer service with a donor-centric mindset and approach.
  • Ability to accept and process feedback and a collaborative working style are essential. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact.
  • Strong work ethic and track record of personal initiative required. Fast-paced and results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising databases helpful.
  • Dexterity to operate computer equipment required.

Pay Range

$70,720.00-$115,627.20 Salary

At Lurie Children’s, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions. In addition to base salary, Lurie Children’s offer a comprehensive rewards package that may include differentials for some hourly employees, leadership incentives for select roles, health and retirement benefits, and wellbeing programs.
