Job summary

The Getty Graduate Internship Program 2027-2028 invites a motivated intern in Collection Platforms & Data (Getty Digital) to gain intensive experience preserving Getty's digital assets, including artist archives, art-historical materials, and born-digital records.

Primary duties include troubleshooting and testing ingestion workflows, developing preservation plans for file characterization, migration, and normalization, QA of web archives, metadata assessment, and drafting related policies.

Qualifications

• Pursuing or completed a graduate degree in a field relevant to digital preservation or data management.
• Willingness to commit to full-time work for 12 months (Sept 13, 2027–Aug 25, 2028).
• Ability to engage in archival workflows, metadata assessment, and policy drafting.

Responsibilities

Getty Graduate Internship Program 2027-2028

The intern in Collection Platforms & Data (Getty Digital) will gain intensive experience preserving Getty's unique collections and assets in digital format, which include archives of artists, galleries, and art historians and audio/video artworks and documentation as well as websites, institutional born-digital records, and research data. The intern’s primary responsibilities will include troubleshooting and testing workflows for ingesting content of all types into a managed system, and developing creative ways to archive complex web experiences, with other projects assigned according to the intern’s particular skills and interests. Specific tasks may include developing preservation plans for file characterization, migration, and normalization, performing quality assurance on web archives and troubleshooting technical issues that arise, assessing technical metadata for digital assets, and participating in the drafting of policies and procedures related to digital preservation.

All positions are full-time for 12 months from September13,2027through August 25, 2028.The grant amount is $52,500 for twelve months, plus $1,500 towards relocation expenses. Interns receive seven days of paidvacationand all holidaysobservedby Getty. Housing is not provided. Support for research travel for up to $3,000 is provided for each participant. Graduate Interns are eligible to enroll in the Getty's health care plan.

Students currently enrolled in a graduate program in a field relevant to the internship(s) for which they are applying or individuals who have completed a relevant graduate degree on or after January 1, 2024, with postgraduate experience in their field (paid or unpaid)
