Performs initial examinations and provides physical therapy interventions to the Mount Sinai Hospital Emergency Department's Geriatric patient population. Works under the supervision of the Therapy Manager (Inpatient/Acute). This position requires a minimum 1 year of acute care/hospital Physical Therapy experience and must demonstrate ability to work on a multi-disciplinary team (physician, social work, case management). The candidate chosen for this position will work exclusively in the Emergency Department, collaborating with our Geriatric medicine teams for the safest outcomes of this population. An APTA Geriatric Clinical Specialist (GCS) certification is strongly preferred for this position.

Performs initial examinations and provides physical therapy interventions to the Mount Sinai Hospital Emergency Department's Geriatric patient population. Responsibilities

  • Performs initial examinations, establishes appropriate goals, plans and implements treatment interventions, performs timely re-examinations and modifies goals and treatment interventions accordingly. Coordinates with other disciplines when indicated.
  • Assumes responsibility for all documentation requirements in a timely manner, i.e., initial examinations, progress notes, monthly summaries and discharge summaries.
  • Provides training to families or care partners and medical personnel as indicated.
  • Recommends appropriate durable medical equipment in coordination with appropriate team members. Writes letters of medical necessity when indicated.
  • Participates in discharge planning, makes recommendations for continued physical therapy and provides home exercise programs when appropriate.
  • Attends all appropriate conferences, rounds, in-services and meetings.
  • Will be assigned additional patients in the event that coverage is necessary as dictated by staffing needs.
  • Attends clinics as assigned.
  • Maintains therapy attendance records, patient charges and statistics.
  • Participates in the supervision of Rehab Patient Care Associates, volunteers, and students.
  • Must be a current member of the APTA.
  • Must follow all MSH policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in PT required. Doctorate preferred
  • 1 year of experience in acute care rehabilitation required.
  • Previous experience as a PT in the ED preferred
  • Previous home care experience preferred
  • Current New York State Physical Therapy license.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $42.8204 - $47.4681 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
