Job summary

Prime Healthcare is seeking a Geriatric Psychiatric RN to join the Riverview Regional Medical Center team in Gadsden, AL. This full-time, night-shift role runs 7:00 PM–7:00 AM with a $4–$8 shift differential and includes a $15,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Must have current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards.
• Working knowledge of interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units.
• Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care.

Responsibilities

• Gauges the behavioral health patients’ psychiatric state and collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to support each patient’s care plan.
• Utilizes de-escalation skills and maintains patient safety during restraint, hold or seclusion events; conducts education.
• Prepares patient and family for safe discharge and therapeutic continuum of care.
• Conducts initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health.
• Monitors vital signs, intake/output, and other clinical indicators for changes in patient conditions.
• Recognizes and acts on warning signs of deterioration (heart rate, respiratory rate, mental status).
• Safely administers prescribed medications (oral, IV, SC, IM) and monitors for adverse effects.
• Acts as liaison between patients, families, and healthcare team to meet needs.
• Provides patient education on condition, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments to support recovery.

A Geri Psych Registered Nurse, also known as a Psychiatric-Mental Health RN, provides care and support to individuals with mental health disorders and substance use disorders. They work with patients, families, groups, and communities to assess mental health needs, develop individualized plans of care, and promote well-being.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

• Gauges the behavioral health patients’ psychiatric state, collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to support each patients’ care plan,
• Has strong de-escalation skills, maintains patient safety during restraint, hold or seclusion events, conducts education.
• Helps prepare the patient and family for a safe discharge and therapeutic continuum of care.
• Conduct thorough initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health
• Monitor vital signs, intake/output, and other clinical indicators to detect changes in patient conditions
• Recognize and act on warning signs of deterioration, such as changes in heart rate, respiratory rate, or mental status
• Safely administer prescribed medications (oral, IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular) and monitor for adverse effects or allergic reactions
• Act as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure the patient's needs are met
• Provide patient education on their condition, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments to support recovery and prevent readmission.
• Communicate effectively with doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and social workers to develop and adjust care plans
• Epic computer charting

Qualifications
