Geotechnical Superintendent

• 4/3 Residential or FIFO roster | 12 hour Days | 10-minute commute from town to site

We are seeking a Geotechnical Superintendent to lead our high performing Underground Technical Services geotechnical function at our KCGM Operations. This opportunity is offered at KCGM Underground Operations on a 4/3 roster, 12-hour days, based in Kalgoorlie-Boulder - the heart of the Goldfields. You have the option to stay residential or work FIFO from Perth.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the primary role is to provide leadership, governance, and accountability for the safe delivery of all underground geotechnical requirements, including team capability, technical standards, risk management, and integration with mine planning and operations.

What you can look forward to:

• Lead the underground medium term geotechnical function, providing clear direction, technical governance, and risk-based decision support across planned and active mining areas.
• Accountable for the safe and effective delivery of ground control systems, geotechnical designs, monitoring programs, and hazard management processes to support operational continuity.
• Partner with Mine Planning, Technical Production, Operations, and Corporate Technical teams to ensure geotechnical inputs are embedded in medium-term mine design, extraction sequencing, and strategic planning decisions.
• Provide leadership and oversight for the underground geotechnical model, ensuring it remains current, fit for purpose, and aligned with geological understanding, ground performance, and the mining strategy.
• Own the development, implementation, and periodic review of the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP) and associated geotechnical standards in accordance with the site Safety Management System and Western Australian mining regulations.
• Oversee numerical and analytical geotechnical modelling programs, ensuring outputs are technically robust and incorporated into mine planning, design reviews, and operational risk controls.
• Manage external geotechnical consultants and specialist studies, ensuring scopes are well defined and deliverables meet safety, quality, schedule, and value expectations.
• Drive continuous improvement in geotechnical systems, processes, reporting, and assurance activities to strengthen technical governance and compliance.
• Lead, coach, and develop Geotechnical Engineers, building capability, accountability, and consistent application of geotechnical standards across the team.

Where you'll add value:

• Extensive underground geotechnical experience in a mechanised hard-rock mining environment, including demonstrated leadership of technical teams or functions.
• Strong working knowledge of geotechnical design, ground support systems, monitoring, hazard identification, risk management, and geotechnical assurance processes.
• Experience with geotechnical software such as Rocscience, IMAT/FLAC3D, IMS, and MxRap; numerical modelling experience will be highly regarded.
• Proven ability to influence mine planning and operational decisions through practical, risk-based technical advice.
• Sound awareness of the Work Health and Safety Act, Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations, and relevant underground mining standards.

Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or equivalent relevant discipline.
• Current “C” Class Western Australian Drivers Licence.
• Postgraduate qualification, professional membership, or statutory competency relevant to underground geotechnical practice will be highly regarded.
• St John Senior First Aid certificate, or willingness to obtain, is desirable.
