Job Overview

We are seeking a Geotechnical Section Manager to support the Department Manager in leading a geotechnical engineering team focused on transportation infrastructure projects. The Section Manager will guide design, development, and delivery of geotechnical tasks while managing scope, budget, and quality control. They will coordinate project priorities, staffing schedules, and assignments to ensure resources align with client needs, and provide technical coaching and mentorship to maintain high standards of service and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, monitor, and manage the section's operating budget, supporting the group or office operating budget and forecasting updates.
• Be responsible for the management, growth, and professional development of a discipline‑specific engineering section, coordinating activities, establishing priorities, and staffing jobs.
• Ensure staff development, mentoring, and training needs are met.
• Collaborate with other Sections and Departments within the office on work‑sharing needs and opportunities.
• Support the implementation of the firm’s strategic plan and SSA process on project pursuits in the Section and office, including development of Section‑level strategic planning strategies.
• Implement the firm’s contracting (SCA) process through project delivery and contracting activities, including scope, work plan, and fee reviews for all contracting activities impacting the Section.
• Implement the firm’s project delivery (SDA) process, including Work Planning, Monthly Project Reviews and other project performance methods to ensure quality work on time and to client satisfaction.
• Assist in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win‑to‑work activities.
• Maintain client contacts to ensure client satisfaction.
• Recruit, hire, develop, and retain section staff, including planning for staff reporting, performance, compensation reviews, and succession.
• Manage assigned project management activities (scope, schedule, budget and quality management) and perform technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications and plan preparation.
• Lead a team of at least five (typically 7–10+ employees) with direct and indirect supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8 years of practical experience, including 2 years of leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Engineering.
• 10 years of practical experience – Geotechnical / Transportation.
• 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

New Jersey: $139,645.93 – $238,276.98 (good faith estimate) Nationwide: $126,950.84 – $248,205.18 (good faith estimate)
