Job summary

Certerra/RMA Group in San Diego seeks a hands-on Area Manager to lead geotechnical engineering operations, grow client relationships, and expand contracts in Southern California. This is a senior, seller-doer role requiring California PE or GE license and a strong track record.

You will manage staff, mentor teams, collaborate with executives, and help drive proposals, pricing, and project pursuits while maintaining excellent client satisfaction and operational performance.

Qualifications

• Active California PE license required.
• Geotechnical Engineer license strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 7+ years of progressive experience within geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, or related consulting services.

Responsibilities

• Lead regional business development and client relationships throughout the San Diego market.
• Develop, maintain, and expand existing client accounts and contracts while identifying new business opportunities.
• Serve as a visible and active representative of Certerra/RMA Group within the Southern California engineering and construction community.
• Manage day-to-day operations of the office, engineering staff, field personnel, and laboratory teams.
• Mentor and support technical and operational staff while promoting a collaborative team environment.
• Collaborate with executive leadership on regional growth strategy, operational performance, and market expansion initiatives.
• Support proposals, pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and project pursuits.
• Maintain strong relationships with developers, municipalities, public agencies, contractors, architects, and consultants.
• Monitor project performance, profitability, utilization, and overall client satisfaction.
• Help drive operational excellence, quality service delivery, and long-term client retention.
