Job Description

General Responsibilities:

Provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. This includes performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and report writing, preparation, and review. Review drawings and construction to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress and budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for reports. Apply sound engineering principles and communicate complex engineering issues to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. Services may be provided for projects in sectors such as public works, transportation, commercial, communications, energy, and industrial.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report safety issues or concerns to management.
  2. Provide and lead continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Promote quality standards and practices.
  3. Ensure consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery.
  4. Manage detailed phases of projects with moderate size and complexity as a fully competent engineering professional.
  5. Perform a variety of projects or segments of larger projects independently.
  6. Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed phases of assigned projects.
  7. Work closely with senior project managers to gain experience for larger projects.
  8. Make design, engineering, and construction recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
  9. Prepare proposals and reports for projects of varying complexity.
  10. Perform quality control reviews of proposals written by others.
  11. Evaluate laboratory and field data for reports.
  12. Serve as a technical adviser to junior team members.
  13. Interact directly with clients and project teams on scope, progress, findings, and recommendations.
  14. Write and prepare engineering reports detailing services, findings, and recommendations.
  15. Participate in marketing, sales, and business development.
  16. Supervise graduate, field, and project engineering staff.
  17. Work under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
  18. Begin documented mentoring and application process for certification as a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  2. Minimum 5-8 years of experience.
  3. Master's degree in engineering preferred.
  4. Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
  5. Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
