Job summary

Intertek’s Fort Lauderdale office is seeking an entry-level Geotechnical Technician Intern to join the Professional Services Industries (Intertek-PSI) team. The role involves performing laboratory testing, site assessments, and engineering duties under supervision, with opportunities to grow in the A/E/C industry.

The intern will assist with lab operations, observe site activities, maintain documentation, and communicate with project teams while complying with safety policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED is required
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Geology is preferred (or in progress*)
• Must have Basic Math, Calculator and Computer Skills
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
• Must be able to read and understand work plans
• Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
• Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of laboratory testing under supervision
• Operate testing equipment and conduct laboratory testing (e.g., concrete compressive strength, grain size analysis, proctor, Atterberg Limits) and report results
• Assist with operation of laboratory and field equipment
• Assist with the use of methods to observe site activities and perform tasks
• Make detailed observations and provide limited interpretation of results
• Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results
• Operate calculator to compute mathematical test results
• Communicate effectively with project teams
• Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure safety of self and others

What are we looking for?

The Geotechnical Technician Intern is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory testing, site assessment and engineering duties under general supervision.

What you’ll do:

• Performa variety of laboratory testing under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures


• Operatetesting equipment and conducts laboratory testing, (examples: concrete compressive strength, grain size analysis, proctor, Atterberg Limits) and provides assessment of data through reporting


• Assist with the operation of laboratory and field equipment


• Assist with theuse of specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks


• Make detailed observations and gives limited interpretation of results


• Maintaindetailed documentation and data from test results


• Operatea calculator to calculate mathematical test results


• Communicateeffectively with project teams


• Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.


• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.


• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally


• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time


• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)


• Ability to climb occasional
