Job summary

Intertek seeks an entry-level Geotechnical Laboratory Technician to join the Nashville, Tennessee team. The role includes performing a variety of laboratory tests, preparing samples, and assisting with site assessments under supervision, in the A/E/C industry.

You will operate testing equipment, record data, follow procedures, and maintain safety and quality standards while working with project teams and clients.

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Geology or Civil Engineering required.
• Basic math, calculator and computer skills are required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal & written communication.
• Ability to read and understand work plans.
• Must be able to work off shifts and overtime.
• Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required.

What are we looking for?

The Geotechnical Laboratory Technicianis responsible for performing a variety of laboratory testing, site assessment and engineering duties under general supervision.

What you'll do:

• Performa variety of laboratory testing under direct supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures
• Operatetesting equipment and conducts laboratory testing, (examples: concrete compressive strength, grain size analysis, proctor, Atterberg Limits) and provides assessment of data through reporting
• Calibrateand maintainlaboratory and field equipment
• Usespecific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks
• Make detailed observations and gives limited interpretation of results
• Maintaindetailed documentation and data from test results
• Operatea calculator to calculate mathematical test results
• Communicateeffectively with client and project teams
• Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

• B.S. Degree in Geology or Civil Engineering required
• Must have Basic Math, Calculator and Computer Skills
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal & written communication
• Must be able to read and understand work plans
• Must be able to work off shifts and overtime
• Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record required

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, move, push and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently. Occasionally, over 50 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound.
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Ability to climb occasionally
