Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates is seeking a Geotechnical Lab and Field Intern for our State College, PA office. In this role you’ll support both laboratory testing and field sampling under supervision, gaining hands-on experience with soils, aggregates, and materials testing on real projects.

Two intern levels exist; Level 1 focuses on lab tasks and Level 2 includes report work and office assignments. Civil Engineering Geotechnical students are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Ability to lift and move up to 60–80 pounds.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform basic math and use measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab tasks including sieve analysis, Atterberg limits, and concrete cylinder testing.
• Assist field tasks: observation, sampling and testing of construction materials.
• Support report creation and documentation of results.
