Job summary

State of Washington – Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) seeks a Transportation Engineer 2 to serve as the Instrumentation Specialist for the Geotech Design & Project Development team. In this role you will independently collect, analyze, and manage geotechnical instrumentation data, install field sensors, and support statewide instrumentation programs.

Qualifications

• Geotechnical instrumentation equipment including digital slope inclinometers, transducers, load cells, strain gauges, and sensors.
• Remote data acquisition systems with dataloggers, modems, and telemetry.
• Specialty geotechnical field testing such as SPT Analyzer, CSL and Downhole methods.
• Data management and analysis using software for engineering staff.
• Web-based data platforms to display instrumentation data, charts, and graphs.
• Geophysical field support and site investigations.
• Strong written and verbal communication, growth mindset, and service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Act as a specialist in instrumentation equipment and data collection.
• Assist in design, deployment, and management of remote data acquisition systems.
• Design and maintain web displays for geotechnical data.
• Collaborate with field crews on SPT Analyzer testing.
• Train technicians in ASTM procedures and equipment usage.
• Compile and validate test data for engineering use.
• Perform CSL testing and Downhole Suspension Logging for projects.
