Job summary

Civil & Environmental Consultants in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a Geotechnical Project Manager to lead investigations, analyses, and reporting across real estate, power, oil & gas, data center and public infrastructure projects. You will oversee field programs, laboratory testing, and technical reviews to deliver sound geotechnical solutions for complex developments.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Geology or related field (M.S. preferred).
  • 8+ years of geotechnical experience, preferably in a consulting environment.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineering (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage geotechnical investigations from proposal through report completion.
  • Prepare and review geotechnical reports, engineering calculations, and design recommendations.
  • Lead geohazard evaluations and mitigation planning for challenging sites.
  • Design slope stabilization and landslide remediation measures, including retaining walls and soil nails.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and construction-phase recommendations.
  • Provide input for foundations, cut/fill slopes, retaining walls, landslide remediation, and roadways.
  • Oversee construction materials testing including earthwork and foundations.
  • Supervise and mentor technical staff and field personnel.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Overview

At Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), we’re looking for a Geotechnical Project Manager to join our growing team in Pittsburgh, PA. You’ll work on a wide range of projects across the real estate, power, oil & gas, data center, and public infrastructure sectors—delivering geotechnical solutions that shape communities and support critical development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage geotechnical investigations from proposal through report completion, including scope development, field exploration, laboratory testing, technical analysis, and client communication.
  • Prepare and review geotechnical reports, engineering calculations, and design recommendations for foundations, earthwork, slope stability, and site development projects.
  • Lead geohazard evaluations, including desktop studies, field investigations, risk assessments, and development of mitigation strategies for geologically challenging sites.
  • Design slope stabilization and landslide remediation measures, including retaining walls, soil nails, ground anchors, and reinforced earth systems.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction‑phase recommendations for geohazard mitigation projects.
  • Provide input and designs for:
    • Building foundations
    • Cut and fill slopes
    • Retaining walls
    • Landslide remediation
    • Roadway rehabilitation
  • Oversee construction materials testing services, including:
    • Earthwork
    • Foundations
    • Slope stabilization
  • Supervise and mentor technical staff and field personnel.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
