Job description

Job Description

General Description

Are you interested in working in a dynamic environment building the power and transmission infrastructure required to meet present and future needs in North America? Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group (QISG) is a rapidly growing construction management and geo-structural engineering company within the Quanta Services (Quanta) family of companies. Quanta, the largest civil construction workforce in North America focused on the Power and Transmission Sector, is meeting the nation’s energy, utility, and communication needs head-on. QISG is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Manager interested in supporting large-scale engineering and construction projects across North America by providing geo-structural design solutions to our construction partners and clients.

About this Role

A Geotechnical Engineering Manager within QISG is involved in various geo-structural engineering projects, focusing on foundation engineering and emphasizing design-build delivery methods for large-scale energy and transmission projects. Collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary team—including civil, structural, geotechnical, construction management, and construction experts—a Geotechnical Engineering Manager plays a crucial role in providing geo-structural design solutions on large projects. Responsibilities include overseeing design production, contributing to construction drawings and specifications, providing engineering support during construction, and engaging with key project stakeholders.

This is an office-based role primarily focused on executing pre-construction geotechnical investigations, performing geotechnical and structural engineering calculations and modeling, and developing design documents to support foundation, retaining wall, and civil construction. The candidate should apply standard and advanced engineering principles to solve complex problems, utilizing sound judgment, field data, and digital technologies to develop economical solutions and communicate effectively with project teams and leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute assignments applying standard and advanced engineering techniques to geo-structural tasks.
  • Perform engineering analyses for deep foundations and retaining structures using software such as LPILE, GROUP, FAD, GRLWeap, SHAFT, APILE, RISA, INVENTOR, or SPColumn.
  • Manage analyses performed by team members or project professionals.
  • Conduct stability modeling for slopes and retaining structures using software like SLIDE, RS2, Plaxis, DIPS, Rocslope, among others.
  • Collaborate closely with project and senior leadership teams across disciplines.
  • Oversee field subcontractor activities, including geotechnical drilling and testing.
  • Develop written reports and communicate findings professionally.
  • Occasionally visit project sites across North America.
  • Participate in professional organizations, industry events, and presentations.
  • Work under the supervision of the Engineering Director in a professional office environment.
Required Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure
  • Minimum 10 years of design experience in geotechnical, structural, transmission, or substation engineering
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Teams
  • Ability to work independently in a small or medium office setting
  • Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology (preferred)
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs as needed
  • Ability to bend, lift, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces
Travel Requirements
  • Estimated 20-25% of the work year, varying with project needs
