Job summary

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is seeking motivated students for a Geotechnical Engineering Intern position in Canton, MI for Summer 2027. Interns will work with experienced professionals on active projects, performing fieldwork, data collection, analysis, and supporting plans and reports.

This paid internship offers hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering and related services. Responsibilities include site inspections, data entry, GIS updates, and collaboration with project teams,

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program or a related environmental science, surveying, construction management, GIS, planning, landscape architecture, agriculture, or other technical program.
• Candidates should have strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and teamwork skills, along with attention to detail, reliability, basic Microsoft Office knowledge, and a willingness to learn.
• Previous AutoCAD or GIS experience is preferred for applicable assignments but is not required.
• Previous internship experience is not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist project teams with technical and administrative project tasks.
• Participate in construction or site inspections, field sampling, and testing, as applicable.
• Collect, organize, analyze, and enter project data.
• Support the preparation of plans, drawings, and other materials using AutoCAD.
• Conduct office research and assist with reports and project documentation.
• Enter, update, and maintain Geographic Information System (GIS) data.
• Participate in site visits and project meetings as needed.
• Maintain accurate records and follow MSG's safety and quality standards.
• Perform other duties based on the intern's area of study and project needs as requested.
