Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for an on-site role in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, to deliver geotechnical solutions for roads, bridges, buildings and mining infrastructure. The candidate will plan and supervise ground investigations, analyze soil and rock data, and design foundations, earthworks, and slope stability measures, mentoring junior staff and liaising with clients and regulators.

A Bachelor's or Master's in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with Pr. Eng.

Qualificações

• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng.) or strong eligibility.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive geotechnical experience.
• Experience in ground investigation and foundation design.
• Familiarity with geotechnical software PLAXIS, GEO5, Slope/W.

About the Role

Our client, a reputable engineering firm specializing in infrastructure development, is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This on-site role focuses on providing comprehensive geotechnical solutions for a variety of projects, including roads, bridges, buildings, and mining infrastructure. You will be responsible for planning and supervising ground investigations, analyzing soil and rock mechanics data, and designing foundations, earthworks, and slope stability measures. This is a key position contributing to the development and maintenance of critical infrastructure in the region. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent report-writing skills, and the ability to manage project deliverables effectively within the Eastern Cape context. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring project safety and economic viability.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and oversee geotechnical site investigations, including drilling and sampling.
• Analyze and interpret soil and rock test results to determine engineering properties.
• Design foundations (shallow and deep), retaining walls, and earthworks for infrastructure projects.
• Conduct slope stability analyses and recommend mitigation measures.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical investigation reports, design recommendations, and specifications.
• Provide geotechnical input and support during the construction phase.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and industry best practices.
• Mentor junior geotechnical engineers and technicians.
• Conduct risk assessments related to ground conditions and advise on mitigation strategies.
• Contribute to proposals and business development efforts.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng.) or strong eligibility for it.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Proven experience in ground investigation, foundation design, and slope stability analysis.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software packages (e.g., PLAXIS, GEO5, Slope/W).
• Experience with infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, or bulk earthworks.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics and rock mechanics principles.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage project schedules and budgets effectively.
• Experience working within the Eastern Cape region is advantageous.
