Job summary

The City of Portland’s Permitting & Development team seeks a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Site Development Section of the Building Code Review Division.

You will review proposals including construction plans, specifications and engineering calculations for conformance with codes and standards, focusing on steep slope hazards, flood, earthquake and erosion hazards, deep foundations, retaining walls, and excavation shoring.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil and geotechnical engineering principles, materials, methods and applicable regulations.
• Geotechnical aspects of construction related to development, codes and practice.
• Soil mechanics and seismic hazard practices.
• Ability to review complex plans, reports and calculations and propose solutions.
• Strong communication with policymakers and community members.
• Ability to collaborate with residents, groups, and professionals.

Responsibilities

• Review geotechnical engineering and site reports for conformance with codes.
• Perform reconnaissance level investigations of proposed development properties.
• Analyze site conditions and perform engineering calculations.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and residents to resolve development issues.
• Support policy and standard development related to civil/geotechnical aspects.
