Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Geotechnical Engineer for our Louisville, KY office to support local infrastructure projects. You will assist with data collection, subsurface investigations, and the analysis that informs design and construction, under supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
• Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
• Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
• Familiarity with remediation, permitting, improvement and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and presenting to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and harassment policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from sites and sources for project development, design, and construction.
• Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements.
• Assist with geotechnical engineering work including subsurface investigations, settlement analysis, erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, and slope stability for various projects.
• Perform routine geotechnical functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and safety of end-users and infrastructure.
• Verify site characteristics and assist with environmental, design, and construction issues involving rock and soil mechanics.
• Generate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site logs.
• Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures and adhere to Code of Conduct and policies.
• Complete training on assigned tasks and exercise responsible decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
