CTL Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (entry-level / EI) to support soil investigations, reports, and technical analyses for projects across OH, IN, WV, KY, NC, SC, and VA.

The role involves collaboration with municipalities, architects, engineers, and developers to deliver customized geotechnical studies. The candidate will engage in explorations, data review, and report preparation, with potential for a company vehicle or reimbursement for personal vehicle use.

Qualifications

• Minimum 0–3 years’ experience.
• Engineering Intern (EI) certification preferred; if not certified, obtain within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical explorations, site characterizations, and risk evaluation.
• Work independently on broad projects with supervision from the Department Manager.
• Provide direction on project basis – prepare lab testing assignments, review documents and testing results for content/accuracy.
• Prepare geotechnical engineering reports.
• Interact with clients on technical aspects of projects.
• Review soils laboratory test results.
• Assist in planning and executing subsurface investigations and locating test borings.
• Design development and analysis of earth embankments, retaining structures and anchoring systems.
• Perform analysis and design of shallow/deep foundations and slope stability evaluations.
• Monitor and enforce quality control standards and specifications.

Highlights

• Interesting projects ranging from infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and “one-off”/unique engineering.
• Projects are typically located in the SW Ohio, northern Kentucky, SE Indiana region – typically within a 60-90 mile radius of the Cincinnati office - but no/very rare overnight travel is the norm.
  • A company vehicle can be provided or reimbursement for personal vehicle use.

Responsibilities

• Performing geotechnical explorations, site characterizations, and risk evaluation on developments.
• Ability to work independently on broad projects with oversight/supervision by the Dept. Manager.
• Providing direction on a project-to-project basis – i.e. preparing lab testing assignments, reviewing documents, and testing results for content and accuracy.
• Preparing geotechnical engineering reports.
• Interacting with clients on technical aspects of the projects.
• Reviewing soils laboratory test results.
• Assisting in planning and the execution of subsurface investigation programs - including the understanding of project design plans, locating test borings at project sites, coordinating underground utility clearance.
• Design development and analysis of earth embankments, earth retaining structures and anchoring systems.
• Performing analysis and design of shallow and deep foundations and slope stability evaluations.
• Monitoring and enforcing quality control standards and specifications.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to read design drawings.
• Ability to meet schedules.
• Experience with common geotechnical software or be able to utilize software with minimal training.
• Self-motivated, reliable, quality minded, and detail oriented.

Minimum Qualifications

• Require 0-3 years’ experience.
• Engineering Intern (EI) certification preferred. Successful candidates who are not currently certified will be expected to obtain their EI certification within six (6) months of hire.

Education

• BS Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must be willing to travel, and be physically able to maneuver on open terrain. .
