CTL Engineering is hiring a Geotechnical Engineer (EIT or new PE)!

We provide civil/site design, land surveying, environmental services, geotechnical investigations, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (EIT or PE) to perform geotechnical explorations and investigations. You will leverage your expertise and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating with institutions/municipal agencies, architects, engineers, developers, and project teams to deliver customized geotechnical studies, reports, and solutions. From initial concept to final execution, this role guides projects through every stage of land profile evaluation, ensuring seamless integration and optimal results.

Highlights:

  • Interesting projects in infrastructure, industrial, commercial, and unique engineering, primarily focused on DOT-related (roadway) and airport/runway projects.
  • Projects are usually within a 60-90 mile radius of the office, with minimal travel and rare overnight stays. A company vehicle or reimbursement for personal vehicle use is provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical explorations, site characterizations, and risk evaluations.
  • Supervise lab technicians, maintain quality reviews and certifications, manage equipment inventory and calibration, and assist with client marketing and proposals.
  • Work independently on broad projects with oversight from the Department Manager.
  • Provide project direction, including preparing lab testing assignments, reviewing documents, and verifying testing results.
  • Prepare geotechnical engineering reports.
  • Interact with clients on technical project aspects.
  • Review soils laboratory test results.
  • Plan and execute subsurface investigations, including understanding project plans, locating test borings, and coordinating utility clearance.
  • Design earth embankments, retaining structures, and anchoring systems.
  • Analyze and design shallow and deep foundations and evaluate slope stability.
  • Ensure quality control standards are met.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret design drawings.
  • Meet project schedules.
  • Experience with geotechnical software or ability to learn quickly.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, detail-oriented, and quality-focused.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of consulting engineering experience on civil projects, ideally 4-7 years.
  • E.I./E.I.T. credential required; PE licensure is a strong plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering; a Master’s in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel and maneuver on open terrain.
