Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Geotechnical Engineer in Kansas City, MO to support project teams from concept through construction. You will assist in field reconnaissance, data compilation, and geotechnical design under a licensed engineer's supervision.

The role emphasizes collaboration, analytical problem solving, and exposure to standard geotechnical methods and software. Internship experience and EIT are preferred, with ABET-accredited degrees strongly favored.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; ABET accredited program preferred.
• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Eng. with Geotechnical emphasis preferred.
• Internship/related consulting experience is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of standard geotechnical engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
• EIT certification preferred.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist field reconnaissance and geological research to evaluate site conditions.
• Assist with development of work scopes and subsurface investigation planning.
• Assist with compiling geotechnical data, boring logs and subsurface profiles.
• Assist with field observation of site investigation activities.
• Assist in geotechnical design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assist in hazard assessments and design of shallow/deep foundations, and slope stability analyses.
• Prepare and review engineering calculations, reports, specs, and construction documents.
• Support client presentations and contract administration.
• Perform geotechnical construction observation during projects.
• Adhere to all policies and standards.
