Job summary

P&C Recruiting and HR is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to support mining operations. You will assess ground conditions, design support systems, and contribute to ground control planning across open pit and underground projects.

Applicants should have a geotechnical engineering degree and at least 2 years of mining experience, with proficiency in RocScience, Geoslope, Itasca FLAC, Phase 2, Deswik, and Vulcan. Strong communication and project management skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mine Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
• 2 years of experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry (Open Pit and/or Underground).
• PE license or P.Eng would be considered an asset.
• Proficient in geotechnical analysis software and mine engineering tools such as RocScience Suite, Geoslope, Itasca FLAC, Phase 2, Deswik, and Vulcan.
• Experience with open-pit radar and underground monitoring systems.
• Ability to log core for Geotechnical properties (RMR, Q’, etc)
• Ability to Map Structures
• Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental considerations in mining operations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical assessments and site characterizations to identify potential risks.
• Design and implement ground support systems to ensure stability of mining structures.
• Perform slope stability analyses and modelling for open pit and underground mining.
• Implement ground support design standards for underground mine development and rehabilitation.
• Collaborate with planning and operations to optimize mining methods.

• Own the site Ground Control Management Plan.
• Prepare geotechnical reports and documentation for regulatory compliance.
• Maintain site geotech block model and numerical stress models.
• Stay updated on geotechnical engineering trends and innovations.

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the stability and safety of mining operations. Your expertise in geotechnical engineering will be instrumental in assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and implementing measures to mitigate geotechnical risks. This role requires a strong background in geotechnical analysis, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical assessments and site characterizations to identify potential risks.
• Design and implement ground support systems to ensure the stability of mining structures.
• Perform slope stability analyses, modelling, and recommend appropriate designs for both open pit and underground mining.
• Implementing ground support design standards for underground mine development and rehabilitation
• Collaborate with planning, operations, and other stakeholders to optimize mining methods.
• Ensuring ground control audits and quality assurance programs are carried out regularly and documented.
• Ownership of the site Ground Control Management Plan
• Prepare geotechnical reports, analyses, and documentation for regulatory compliance.

• Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and innovations in geotechnical engineering.
