Job summary

EXP is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Northeast infrastructure team in New York. You will contribute to major transit and rail projects, performing geotechnical analyses, planning investigations, and delivering clear engineering reports.

The role requires a Civil or Geotechnical Engineering degree, 3–5 years of experience, an EIT certification, and strong communication skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
• 3–5 years geotechnical experience.
• EIT certification required.
• PE license preferred.
• Experience with transportation, transit, aviation projects.
• Knowledge of NYC-area geology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical analyses and design for transportation and infrastructure projects.
• Plan and supervise subsurface investigations (drilling, sampling, field tests).
• Evaluate data and prepare reports with foundation and ground improvement recommendations.
• Develop foundation designs for shallow and deep systems.
• Support retaining walls and excavation support systems design.
• Conduct settlement analyses, seepage evaluations and modeling.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, environmental teams throughout delivery.
• Contribute to proposals and cost estimates.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role you will be a part of the infrastructure group in the Northeast market. We are currently looking to grow and enhance our transit, rail control systems, structural, roadway, and tunneling practices and are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Geotechnical Engineer to support major transit and rail projects throughout the New York metropolitan area.

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and design for transportation, transit, aviation, infrastructure, and development projects.
• Assist with planning and execution of subsurface investigations, including drilling, sampling, field testing, and laboratory testing programs.
• Evaluate geotechnical data and prepare engineering reports with recommendations for foundations, earth retention systems, ground improvement, pavement design, embankments, and slope stability.
• Develop foundation designs for shallow and deep foundation systems.
• Support the design of retaining walls, support-of-excavation systems, and temporary structures.
• Perform settlement analyses, seepage evaluations, and geotechnical modeling using industry-standard software.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, environmental, and construction teams throughout project delivery.
• Conduct site visits and construction observation activities as required.
• Assist in preparing technical proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
• Contribute to client interactions and support business development initiatives.

What Your Experience Looks Like

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain preferred.
• Experience supporting infrastructure, transportation, transit, aviation, building, or land development projects.
• Experience with geotechnical investigations, engineering analyses, and technical report preparation.
• Familiarity with NYC-area geological conditions and subsurface construction challenges is preferred.
• Working knowledge of applicable NYSDOT, MTA, Port Authority, NYCDEP, and NYC DOB standards is a plus.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced consulting environment.

The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
