Job summary

First Point Group is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Field Engineer to serve as the geotechnical SME supporting earthworks construction activities. You will ensure work complies with project specifications, safety, and quality requirements on-site in Syracuse, NY.

You will lead field teams, monitor soil and rock excavation, review reports, and coordinate with Civil/Structural, ES&H, and Project Management groups to deliver complex infrastructure projects on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field
• Demonstrated experience supporting major earthworks construction projects in the field
• Strong understanding of earthworks construction / Site investigations / Foundation engineering / Slope stability analysis / Excavation support systems / Soil and rock mechanics
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment

Responsibilities

• Provide field leadership and technical oversight for earthworks operations
• Monitor and support soil and rock excavation activities
• Ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications, construction drawings, and quality requirements
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve field geotechnical issues in real time
• Review and interpret geotechnical reports, test data, and field observations
• Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, calculations, and engineering documentation
• Review vendor submittals and integrate recommendations into project execution plans
• Coordinate closely with Construction, Civil/Structural, ES&H, Quality, and Project Management teams
• Track scope, schedule, productivity, and technical deliverables; conduct investigations, foundation evaluations, and earthworks design implementation

Job description

As the Senior Geotechnical Field Engineer, you will serve as the geotechnical subject matter expert supporting earthworks construction activities and ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide field leadership and technical oversight for large-scale earthworks operations
• Monitor and support soil and rock excavation activities
• Ensure compliance with geotechnical specifications, construction drawings, and quality requirements
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve field geotechnical issues in real time
• Review and interpret geotechnical reports, test data, and field observations
