Job summary

ECS Limited in Detroit, MI, seeks a Geotechnical Department Manager to lead the geotechnical engineering team and contribute to business growth. You will manage projects, mentor engineers and technicians, and uphold technical standards while nurturing client relationships.

This role combines field experience with the business side, overseeing budgets, forecasts, and department performance, and driving quality, safety, and engagement across the team.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of civil/geotechnical engineering experience.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Extensive technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering concepts.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and P&L.
• Business development experience engaging clients and winning projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of geotechnical engineering projects.
• Lead a team of geotechnical engineers, geologists, PMs, and technicians.
• Ensure projects adhere to geotechnical best practices, safety and QC.
• Perform technical review of proposals, reports, and calculations.
• Track department budget, revenue, forecasts, and performance.
• Set goals and develop staff skills through training initiatives.
• Assist senior staff with business development through community involvement.
• Promote company values, culture, and high employee engagement.
