Job summary

Engineering Consulting Service seeks a geotechnical field technician to support staff on geotechnical projects in Louisiana. You will assist with field data collection, document site observations, and help with boring/test pit work under supervision.

The role requires a Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or similar; no experience is required. A valid driver's license may be required to progress within ECS.

Responsibilities

• Assist staff with field tasks supporting geotechnical projects
• Document site observations for CMT and geotechnical field work performed
• Perform boring and test pit layouts under limited supervision
• Prepare drilling packages and obtain utility clearances
• Perform research on local geologic history
• Assist with supervision of field work by drilling/test pit crews and assist with rig access issues
• Perform in-situ testing
• Classify soils
• Keep project staff informed of changing site conditions and/or additional testing requested on project sites

Job description

Responsibilities

• Primarily involved with assisting staff with field tasks supporting geotechnical projects
• Responsibilities include clearly documenting site observations for both construction materials testing (CMT) and geotechnical field work performed
• Other duties may include assisting with or performing the following with limited supervision:
  • Perform boring and test pit layouts
  • Prepare drilling packages and obtain utility clearances
  • Perform research on local geologic history
  • Assist with supervision of field work performed by drilling/test pit crews and assist with rig access issues.
  • Perform in-situ testing
  • Classify soils
  • Keep project staff informed of changing site conditions and/or additional testing requested on project sites
