Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated Geostructural Project Engineer to join our growing team. This position is intended for an early-to-mid career candidate interested in both developing technical designs and providing support through construction. The role will support geostructural design and design-build projects through engineering calculations, CAD production, field observation, construction support, and report preparation.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants a combination of office-based design, geotechnical and structural analysis, construction support, and hands‑on field exposure.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers and project managers with geotechnical and structural design tasks for earth retention and foundation projects, including supporting designs such as slopes, drainage, utilities, grading, and erosion control.
- Prepare basic engineering calculations, quantity take-offs, sketches, figures, and supporting documentation for design memoranda, reports, proposals, and construction documents.
- Support development of project plans, details, and construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
- Assist with preparation of permit submittals, construction document packages, and technical exhibits.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, and sales teams to interpret project requirements, design assumptions, codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Observe geostructural‑related construction activities and document site conditions, contractor activities, and general conformance with project documents. This includes performing load testing on various structural elements
- Prepare clear, accurate, and timely field reports, observation logs, and testing summaries.
- Support engineers during construction by responding to field questions, reviewing drawings, preparing sketches, and documenting changed conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training certification or intent to pursue EIT certification.
- 2–8 years of experience in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, geostructural engineering, construction materials testing, construction observation, drafting, or related work.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD; Civil 3D experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, boring logs, laboratory data, and technical documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Willingness to perform field work and travel to project sites as needed, including occasional overnight travel. Field assignments may require field time, including overnight travel, up to 50% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer licensure.
- Prior professional experience in civil, geotechnical, construction, or materials testing work.
- Experience with geotechnical software such as Slide2, RS2, LPile, GROUP, DeepFND, Settle3, PLAXIS, gINT, OpenGround, or similar programs.
- Experience with GIS, GPS, MicroStation, Revit, or other design and mapping software.
- Familiarity with FHWA, ASTM, AASHTO, DOT, or local agency specifications.
- ACI, NICET, OSHA 10/30-hour, or other construction-related certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
- Ability to lift and carry testing equipment, samples, and materials as needed.
- Ability to walk on uneven terrain, access construction areas, and comply with site‑specific safety requirements.
