Job description

Business Insights is a specialized software development company. We are currently looking to add a Geospatial Technology Lead to our team.

What is our mission?

Design, develop, and ensure the quality of software solutions to meet requirements and standards, including creating, documenting, and testing comprehensive test plans.

Provide technical leadership for our geospatial technology stack, guiding architecture decisions and establishing best practices.

Lead a cross-functional team of developers, data scientists, and geospatial specialists to build scalable solutions.

Drive the evolution of our geospatial services, including hazard scoring, satellite imagery analysis via computer vision, and post-catastrophe event analysis.

Design and optimize APIs and data products for internal stakeholders and external clients.

Collaborate with product managers to translate business needs into technical specifications and plans.

Work with architects and the CTO to define scalable architectures aligned with platform principles.

Mentor and develop technical talent within the team, fostering innovation.

Evaluate emerging geospatial technologies and advise on strategic adoption to maintain a competitive edge.

What do we need from you?
  • 7+ years of experience in geospatial technology and software development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in geospatial data processing, analysis, and visualization tools (e.g., PostGIS, Mapbox, QGIS, ArcGIS, Carto, Felt).
  • Strong background in cloud architecture (AWS) and API design for geospatial applications.
  • Experience with distributed geospatial data processing, big data tools (Spark, GeoSpark/Sedona).
  • Proficiency in designing data pipelines for geospatial data ingestion and analysis.
  • Knowledge of geospatial data storage solutions like PostGIS.
  • Ability to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance.
  • Experience with computer vision techniques for satellite or aerial imagery.
  • Knowledge of natural catastrophe modeling is a plus.
  • Familiarity with insurance industry terminology and workflows is highly valuable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, GIS, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Leadership and mentorship capabilities.
