Job summary

WR Systems in Norfolk, VA seeks a Geospatial Technical Manager to lead the development and maintenance of geospatial navigation software products. You will oversee GUI, backend logic, and database architecture to enable scalable GIS solutions.

The role requires 6+ years of software development experience, strong OOP knowledge, and proficiency in C++ and/or C#. You will mentor staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative geospatial capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geospatial Science, GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Environmental Science, or related engineering discipline.
• Six (6)+ years of software development experience.
• Strong understanding of advanced programming concepts: OOP, design patterns, multi-threading, IPC, buffering, persistence, modeling & simulation.
• Experience developing software using C++ and/or C# (preferred).
• Knowledge of data filtering, real-time filtering, predictive modeling, interpolation/smoothing techniques.
• Experience with software performance tuning, troubleshooting, debugging.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable GIS architectures and web-mapping applications.
• Lead technical efforts related to geospatial navigation software products and system enhancements.
• Enforce QA/QC standards, metadata documentation, and security protocols.
• Evaluate emerging spatial technologies, including AI/ML, to improve workflows.
• Manage relationships with software vendors, data providers, and external consultants.
• Support software architecture, integration, testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop geospatial solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software development personnel.
