Qualifications

• Active Geologist‑in‑Training certificate or equivalent credential.
• Bachelor's degree in geology/geophysics/geochemistry/engineering geology with 30 credits in geologic coursework.
• Equivalent combination of experience and 30 geologic credits.
• Educational requirements met within 3 months of graduation.

Responsibilities

• Map Preparation: create geologic maps, cross sections, charts, graphics, and data layers using GIS.
• Data Learning: learn geospatial methods from staff scientists and provide guidance.
• Standards Participation: implement geospatial data standards for content and QA.
• Data Investigation: explore new data sources, tools, and techniques to improve mapping.
• Project Support: assist in preparing federally funded deliverables using geologic schemas.
• Community Outreach: participate in presentations, field trips and public materials.

Education

Geologist-in-Training certificate

Bachelor's degree in geology/geophysics/geochemistry/engineering geology with 30 geologic credits

Equivalent combination with 30 geologic credits

Graduation within 3 months of qualifying degree/credits
