Job Description

Innovate! Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Geospatial Data Scientist to join our geospatial solutions team. In this role, you will assist with the design, development, and maintenance of geospatial applications across the concept, design, and implementation phases; support teammates in using GIS applications and software; and interface directly with clients and teaming partners. You will apply advanced spatial data science, machine learning, and statistical modeling to explore geospatial patterns, model accessibility and vulnerability, and generate actionable insights for decision-making. Leveraging GIS platforms, programming tools, and rigorous analytical methods, you will design and implement data-driven workflows that support mission, research, and operational objectives—while ensuring that data and models are reproducible, scalable, and integrated across enterprise systems and analytical products.

We are seeking self-starting individuals with a “Let me at it” attitude who can adapt to a fluid work environment and an occasionally demanding schedule. In return, you will be able to be part of a motivated, highly skilled team and will be able to contribute to the growth and positive direction of our company.

*Contingent upon contract being awarded*

Location: Candidate can work remotely.

Salary Range: $80000-$100000 annually

Position Status: Full Time; with benefits

Benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K with match, Life Insurance, and PTO

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Geospatial Analytics & Modeling: Develop, execute, and manage the production of spatial analyses and predictive models. Use raster, vector, and tabular datasets (e.g., topography, transportation networks, demographics, hazards, climate, infrastructure) to assess accessibility, exposure, and vulnerability across geographic and socio-economic dimensions.
  • Exploratory Data Science & Machine Learning: Employ advanced exploratory data analysis (EDA), data mining, clustering, and supervised/unsupervised learning to detect spatial and temporal patterns in large, heterogeneous datasets. Identify relationships between environmental, infrastructural, and human factors influencing accessibility and resilience.
  • Data Engineering & ETL Pipelines: Design, build, and maintain robust ETL pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate geospatial and non-geospatial data from diverse sources. Ensure data quality, interoperability, and readiness for analysis through adherence to industry standards and metadata best practices.
  • Model Development for Accessibility and Vulnerability: Create spatial models that quantify access to services, transportation, health care, and emergency resources; assess vulnerability to hazards, infrastructure disruptions, and socio-economic inequities. Use network analysis, gravity modeling, and spatial regression to support policy and planning decisions.
  • Visualization & Communication: Develop process flows, dashboards, and visualization products that communicate model results and analytical findings. Translate complex data into intuitive, map-based insights and narrative summaries for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Research & Development: Contribute to the design and execution of research studies, including defining hypotheses, selecting appropriate methodologies, and implementing computational experiments using Python, R, ArcPy, and related libraries.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIScience, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 2+ years of professional experience in geospatial analytics, spatial statistics, or data science

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with Python (ex. Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, GeoPandas), R (sf, terra, tidymodels), etc
  • Strong foundation in spatial statistics, accessibility modeling, vulnerability assessment, and predictive analytics
  • Ability to conduct independent research and produce comprehensive technical analyses and written documentation
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently while aligning with project goals and client objectives

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing data visualizations and reproducible workflows using Jupyter, ArcGIS Notebooks, or R Markdown with Esri technologies (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcPy)
  • Experience in implementing ML workflows (e.g PyTorch) within customer environments to create production data products
