Job summary

Texas A&M Forest Service seeks a Geospatial Analyst II to join the Enterprise Data & Analytics team in College Station. The role focuses on developing data-driven solutions to enhance wildfire preparedness, response, and resource management.

Responsibilities include conducting advanced geospatial analyses, automating workflows, and communicating insights through reports and visualizations. Strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, Python, and remote sensing is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, math, statistics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years in geospatial analysis or statistical analysis; advanced degree may substitute.
  • Strong data analysis capabilities: creating, organizing, manipulating, maintaining, analyzing, and visualizing data.
  • Analytical skills in environmental geospatial modeling, remote sensing, or spatial statistics.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects with sound judgment.
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro, Python, and remote sensing software; working knowledge of relational databases.

We need forward-looking problem solvers to help Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) and the citizens of Texas stay ahead of the threat. As part of our integrated technology team in the Applied Technology Department of the Fire and Emergency Response (FERM) Division, you’ll have the opportunity to develop data-driven solutions, automate critical workflows, and deliver timely products to enhance wildfire preparedness and response. What You’ll Do
  • -Develop and enhance data-driven solutions that improve wildfire response and resource management.
  • -Conduct advanced geospatial analyses to address complex wildfire and natural resource challenges.
  • -Automate workflows to maximize efficiency and improve response times.
  • -Communicate insights effectively through reports, visualizations, and interactive platforms.
  • -Compile, process, and manage complex tabular, vector, and raster data sources in support of analyses and applications.
  • -Support collaboration and program messaging within FERM ]through application of latest technology.
  • -Participate in agency’s geospatial working group, professional development, and collaborate with other agency programs in TAMFS.
  • -Occasionally support emergency response operations as requested, which may include working extended hours and weekends.
Required qualifications:
  • -Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, math, statistics, or related field of study.
  • -Minimum of 4 years in geospatial analysis, statistical analysis, or similar, in either an academic or professional setting. An advanced degree may substitute for experience.
  • -Strong working knowledge of concepts and processes of data analysis including creating, organizing, manipulating, maintaining, analyzing, and visualizing data.
  • -Analytical skills in at least one of the following areas: environmental geospatial modeling, remote sensing, and/or spatial statistics.
  • -Ability to work independently and use sound judgment to find solutions to common, complex problems.
  • -Ability to manage projects effectively.
  • -Ability and desire to keep abreast of new developments and standards in geospatial technology and analysis.
  • -Proficient in MS Office, ArcGIS Pro, Python, and remote sensing software.
  • -Working knowledge of relational database concepts.
  • -Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • -Ability to communicate work to both technical and non-technical audiences, with effective oral, written, and visual modes of communication.
  • -Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred qualifications:
  • -Graduate degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, math, statistics, or related field of study.
  • -Experience with or interest in natural resources, especially with emphasis in forestry, wildfire science, or fire ecology.
  • -Experience in one or more of the following areas: wildland fuels mapping, wildfire response field support, land use/land cover change detection, LiDAR.
  • -Proven experience with Python and/or R.
  • -Working knowledge of Google Earth Engine.
  • -Working knowledge of Power Automate and Power BI.
  • -Experience with machine learning and advanced statistical techniques.
