Job summary

Texas A&M Forest Service is seeking a Geospatial Analyst II to advance geospatial and data technologies, improving situational awareness and emergency response. You will develop data-driven solutions, perform complex analyses, automate workflows, and communicate insights to diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, emergency management, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years in geospatial analysis or related fields; advanced degree may substitute.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with emphasis on geospatial data management and visualization.
• Working knowledge of relational databases.
• Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related apps (Survey123, Field Maps, Experience Builder, Operations Dashboard).
• Strong Python programming skills and familiarity with Azure Functions and Logic Apps.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently and manage projects; communicative with technical and non-technical audiences.

What You'll Do

• Develop and enhance data-driven solutions that improve wildfire response and resource management.
• Conduct advanced geospatial analyses to address complex wildfire and natural resource challenges.
• Automate workflows to maximize efficiency and improve response times.
• Communicate insights effectively through reports, visualizations, and interactive platforms.
• Compile, process, and manage complex tabular, vector, and raster data sources in support of analyses and applications.
• Support division collaboration and program messaging through application of latest technology.
• Participate in agency's geospatial working group, professional development, and collaborate with other agency programs in TAMFS.
• Occasionally support emergency response operations as requested, which may include working extended hours and weekends.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, emergency management, or related field of study.
• Minimum of 4 years in geospatial analysis, statistical analysis, or similar, in either an academic or professional setting. An advanced degree may substitute for experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including geospatial data management, workflow design, and data visualization, with emphasis on supporting project requirements and emergency management applications.
• Working knowledge of relational database concepts.
• Proficiency with geospatial tools, especially ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related applications including Survey123, Field Maps, Experience Builder, and Operations Dashboard.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Familiarity with Azure Functions (HTTP triggers, timer triggers, and queue triggers) and Logic Apps.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work independently, manage projects, exercise sound judgment, and solve complex problems.
• Ability and desire to stay current with new developments and standards in geospatial technology, analysis, and emergency management applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, using oral, written, and visual methods.
• Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.

Preferred qualifications

• Graduate degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, emergency management, or related field of study.
• Experience or interest in natural resources, particularly forestry, wildfire science, fire ecology, or emergency management.
• Familiarity with dashboards and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).
• Exposure to workflow automation and cloud-based platforms (e.g. Azure, Power Automate), or database management.
• Experience with additional programming languages, statistical tools, or machine learning.
