Job summary

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Spring 2027 Process Control Engineer Coop/Intern to join our team at the Big Island, Virginia Mill. The Spring rotation runs January through May and offers hands-on experience with process control systems.

You will be mentored by a dedicated process control group and work on significant projects, solving real problems and gaining ownership of your work in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college degree program in electrical or chemical engineering.
  • Eligible for full-time employment in or before 2029.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot installed systems to improve effectiveness and efficiency of process control.
  • Collaborate with operations to implement new technologies for advanced manufacturing.
  • Work with mill personnel to identify opportunities and solve problems across the control system.
  • Participate in controls and automation design, implementation, and support of hardware and software for mill process control equipment.
  • Support optimization and advanced process control efforts across the mill.
  • Contribute to the mill safety program through personal and observed safety practices.

Our Team

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Spring 2027 Process Control Engineer Coop/Intern to join our team at the Big Island, Virginia Mill. Big Island is located near Lynchburg in central Virginia. The Spring co-op rotation takes place from January -- May.

Your Job

The desired candidate must demonstrate customer focus as well as strategic & economic thinking, possess good problem-solving skills, and enjoy collaborating across the organization. This position supports all control throughout the mill and will be responsible for designing and implementing control improvements while working with others to maintain and troubleshoot the mill's control systems. As a coop/intern you will be supported by a dedicated mentor in the process control group and gain real-world, hands-on experience, with the opportunity to tackle significant projects, problem-solve, and take ownership of their work.

Alongside your day-to-day role, the Koch Intern Program offers an opportunity to learn more about Koch, our people, Principle Based Management through weekly learning sessions. This 12-week program will allow you to experience Life at Koch, as you start your career and go anywhere within our network of companies.

What You Will Do
  • Support process operations (your customer) by troubleshooting installed systems to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of these systems.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Enrolled in a college degree program in electrical or chemical engineering.
  • Eligible for full-time employment in or before 2029.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

For this role, we anticipate paying $27 to $30 an hour.
