Job summary

ExxonMobil is seeking an experienced geomechanics researcher to lead advanced modeling of fluid injection and induced seismicity at the Houston Campus in Spring, TX. The role focuses on integrating geomechanical methods with reservoir simulations to understand seismic responses and hazards in support of low carbon solutions.

The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team, employing tools like DefMod, GeoS, PyLith, ABAQUS and COMSOL, and will code in MATLAB/Python/Julia.

Qualifications

• PhD in rock mechanics, fracture mechanics, computational mechanics or related fields.
• Experience with geomechanical modeling tools and numerical methods.
• Ability to develop and modify technical code in MATLAB/Python/Julia.

Responsibilities

• Geomechanical modeling of fluid injection by coupling geomechanics with reservoir simulators.
• Investigation of seismicity or surface heave associated with injection projects.
• Modeling of induced seismicity using statistical and physics-based methods.
• Advising on induced seismicity hazard of potential fluid injection projects.
• Evaluating numerical frameworks to forecast injection-related induced seismicity.
• Collaboration with colleagues in ExxonMobil and external institutions.
