Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan in New Mexico is seeking a geotechnical engineer for oversight and data analysis of slope stability in a hard rock open pit environment. You will collaborate with outside consultants and mine planning teams to optimize slope design and safety.

The role emphasizes data collection, analysis, and reporting, with opportunities to advance engineering projects and contribute to safe, efficient mining operations. A B.S.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Mining, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering; no experience required.
  • Knowledge of mining, mining engineering and geotechnical applications in hard rock open pit mines.
  • MS Office and AutoCAD; Geotechnical data analysis.
  • Ability to research, analyze and communicate complex information and develop action plans.
  • Ability to manage engineering projects in hard rock open pit settings.
  • Good verbal and written communication to diverse audiences.
  • Awareness of occupational hazards and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in geotechnical project oversight and review with outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles.
  • Assist in slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews.
  • Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability information to mine and site personnel.
  • Assist in inspections of pit walls, stockpiles and site access roads.
  • Proactively seek improvements to safe mining of mine reserves related to slope monitoring and blasting; perform other duties as required.
