Job summary

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys in Anchorage invites applications for a Natural Resource Technician II to join the Geologic Materials Center (GMC). The successful candidate will help characterize and digitize GMC samples for public access and data quality.

Responsibilities include operating the hyperspectral core scanner, preparing samples, maintaining inventory, and logging measurements with bar scanners and software.

Qualifications

• Geology knowledge of Earth origins and structure.
• Attention to detail in performing tasks.
• Ability to lift and move heavy items up to 50 lbs.
• Familiarity with computers and data entry.
• Analytical thinking to solve problems and ensure quality.

Responsibilities

• Operate hyperspectral core scanner; assist team in handling rock core boxes up to 50 lbs.
• Prepare samples: clean, rebox core, maintain GMC inventory.
• Log samples and measurements using bar scanners and hyperspectral software.
• Operate heavy warehouse vehicles; transport sample boxes as needed (training provided).
• Perform light data entry in Excel and Word for data QA and client communication.
