Job summary

South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources seeks a Geologist Intern for the Summer session (May–August) to support the SD Geological Survey. The student will gain hands-on experience in mapping geology and groundwater resources across South Dakota, including drilling, monitoring wells, water sampling, and GIS mapping.

Applicants must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student in the upcoming or immediately preceding semester.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student in the upcoming semester or the immediately preceding semester.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, SD residents, and students of SD institutions.
• One year (nine months) of their program completed by start of internship.

Responsibilities

• Assist Geological Survey personnel with mapping of SD geology and groundwater resources.
• Drill test holes and install monitoring wells; collect water samples.
• Perform data analysis and GIS mapping of aquifers and bedrock geology.
