Responsibilities

• Perform field explorations, collect samples, construction observation, geologic reconnaissance, mapping, and preparing field reports.


• Experience with drilling techniques including: hollow stem auger, down-hole bucket auger, rotary coring.


• Organize laboratory data, conduct limited soil index property laboratory testing, and report data.


• Interact and communicate with subcontractors, clients, and staff at all levels.


• Assist with business development and marketing activities, including preparation of cost proposals.


• Follow Shannon & Wilson’s Quality Assurance policy.


• Follow and promote Shannon & Wilson’s Health & Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures.


• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• BS degree in Geology or Engineering Geology; and MS or PhD degree in Geology or Engineering Geology preferred.


• 0 to 6 years of experience as a Geologist, including soil sampling and some testing experience.


• Have taken or are prepared to take LG exam.


• Experience in geologic interpretation using soil and rock samples retrieved from explorations and soil classifications; experience with Puget Sound geology and glacial geology a plus .


• Experience with application to geotechnical engineering practice (rock mechanics experience a plus) and observation of earthwork, pile/shaft foundation and retaining structure construction a plus.


• Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.


• Personable, flexible, and professional demeanor.


• The ability to work independently with the appropriate level of OR minimal supervision.


• The willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices.


• A valid driver license and insurable driving record.


• Basic computer skills: MS Word, Excel (required); MS Access (desirable).


• Critical thinking and analysis.


• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds.


• Working in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain.


• The ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state about 80% of the time.


• The ability to get a pass for access to military facilities.

Level Placement

Typically, depending on an applicant’s education, experience, overall abilities, alignment with the needs of the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, an Entry-Level Geologist typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Professional I, II, III, or IV level with an annual compensation ranging from $91,500 - $104,000 earned and paid biweekly.

Salary Description

$91,500 - $104,000 annual salary
