Job Summary
This is a short-term, benefits-eligible, full-time one-year-only teaching opportunity for academic year 25/26 beginning August 2025.
We are looking for an enthusiastic geography educator to join our campus community. The right person will be excited about teaching in different settings - from traditional classrooms to labs to online spaces - and will use engaging, hands-on teaching methods that connect with students. This role is all about making three important commitments: to students through excellent teaching and mentoring, to fellow faculty through collaboration and leadership (especially with adjunct and dual enrollment instructors), and to the college through active participation in campus life, committees, and community outreach.
Effectively instructs students in geography courses in classroom, laboratory and/or online settings; participates in campus and/or District committees; is active in department and program projects, community outreach and professional growth endeavors; provides leadership to adjunct and dual enrollment faculty; uses instructional technologies and incorporates active learning techniques. Works with a population of students, faculty, administrators and staff.
Essential Functions
- Instructs students in classroom and lab settings.
- Develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses student knowledge of subject matter and prepares and grades exams; maintains academic support hours to assist and advise students.
- Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide and campus committees and activities.
- Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops.
Minimum Qualifications
The Academic Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:
Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field OR
Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours
The following disciplines meet the requirements to teach in this field:
Geography, Physical Geography, Human/Cultural Geography, Urban Geography, Geomorphology, Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Climatology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Sustainability, Geographical Sciences
Course Subjects
GPH - Physical Geography, GCU - Cultural/Human Geography, GEOG - Geographical Sciences, GIS - Geographic Information Systems/Science, any 400 or 500 level course cross listed with Geography, any 400- level course that is also cross listed as a 500+ level course in Geography
Desired Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Geography or Related Field
- One (1) or more years’ experience of teaching introductory and general geography in a community college setting
- Evidence of experience engaging students using active learning strategies in both lecture and laboratory
- Evidence of experience with the use of instructional technology with students in a lecture classroom, laboratory classroom, and/or on-line environments
- Evidence of experience working with and developing curriculum for underrepresented, non-traditional, and liberal-arts students,.
- Experience with co-curricular activities such as science outreach, dual enrollment, service learning, learning communities, student clubs, etc.
- Experience with teaching Geographic Information Technologies.
Special Working Conditions

- May be required to participate in geoscience field trips
- May be required to work at multiple campuses
- May be required to work and instruct during evenings and weekends, and/or be assigned to teach on particular days
- May be required to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
