Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a GIS specialist to create maps by translating GIS data from deeds, blueprints, and other sources into clear digital representations. You will maintain and verify GIS databases, perform deed research, and respond to public information requests.

You’ll support governmental agencies and the public, draft reports, manage voter district designations, and stay current with GIS standards through ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

Experience with basic map reading and interpretation using GIS tools.
Completion of GIS coursework such as drafting/design, cartography, geography or GIS.

Responsibilities

Create GIS maps by designing and replicating graphic representations of GIS data from hard-copy maps, deed descriptions, blueprints, and other sources
Maintain GIS database content by editing, updating, researching, and verifying data
Conduct GIS-related research using deeds, ownership records, stakeholder contacts, and site visits
Assist employees, governmental agencies, and the public with GIS requests and information
Draft correspondence, handle map sales, and respond to inquiries
Create reports related to GIS activities
Maintain the County's voter database by designating voting districts and ensuring voter assignments are correct
Perform general maintenance, troubleshooting, and updates for GIS hardware and software
Engage in professional development and stay current with relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and guidelines

Experience with basic computer skills (e.g. copy and paste, data entry)
Completion of GIS coursework (e.g. Drafting and/or Design, Cartography, CAD, Geography, GIS)
Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting
Job requires continuous education to maintain certification/licensure
