Job summary

County of Kaua'i is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst trainee to learn and apply basic GIS principles in map design and data management. The role includes training in producing thematic maps, interpreting aerial imagery, and entering data for GIS databases.

The position emphasizes hands-on GIS software use and data verification, with the aim of developing skills for final map prints and reports within the Department of Finance, Real Property-Assessments.

Qualifications

  • Combination of education and experience equivalent to a baccalaureate degree in physical or natural science, geography, engineering, planning, or computer science.
  • Learns to interpret aerial photographs and maps to delineate land use characteristics.
  • Learns to enter data into the GIS database and to design maps using GIS software.
  • Learns to design and produce maps using GIS software and write programs to format data.

  • Receives orientation in GIS principles and processes.
  • Learns to interpret aerial photographs and maps for land use characteristics.
  • Learns to convert data for entry into the GIS database.
  • Enters delineated information into GIS via digitizing or data entry procedures.
  • Learns to design and produce maps using GIS software.
  • Investigates and verifies geographic and land use data by site inspections.
  • Participates in producing final prints and reports using printers and plotters.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
