Job summary

University of Missouri-Columbia’s MU Energy Management seeks a Geographic Information System Specialist II to update GIS data for campus facilities and utilities, create specialty maps, and analyze information using GIS tools. The role requires field data collection via GPS, data management, and collaboration with campus teams.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least two years of GIS experience, plus ESRI ArcGIS proficiency.

At MU Energy Management, we power the future! Nature of Work:

Provides coordination of a Geographic Information System (GIS) and/or Global Positioning System (GPS) and related automated systems. May develop and manage related projects and/or present and publish information about the projects.

Performs Geographical Information System mapping, applications programming, data management, surveying, and buried utility locates for all utilities, roads, parking, sidewalks, structures and landscaping located on the MU Campus and adjoining farms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Updating existing Geographic Information System (GIS) data with changes being made to campus facilities, utilities or grounds.
  • Provide specialty maps, analysis, information and reports using GIS as a tool.
  • Obtain needed data through Global Positioning System (GPS) and surveying equipment.
  • Assist department personnel in the monitoring, reporting and utilization of department data metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, which will allow legal operation of a motor vehicle in the State of Missouri.

Supervision Received:

Administrative and functional supervision is received from designated supervisor. Receives oral and written instructions daily on work to be performed, occasionally supplemented by diagrams and/or blueprints.

Shift

7:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years documented experience with Geographical Information Systems.
  • Working knowledge and experience using ESRI ArcGIS Software.
  • Professional certification from ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Experience deploying, maintaining, and administering ArcGIS Enterprise (including ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcSDE)
  • Familiarity with symbols and terminology used in civil, architectural, or electronic engineering.
  • Experience accessing field sites to utilize GPS technologies to perform field data collection.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $25-$35 hourly

Grade: GGS-9
