Job summary

Bayer is seeking a Research and Development Specialist II for the 2nd shift (Mon–Thu, 3pm–2am) in Ankeny, IA. You will perform high-throughput genotyping, operate automated systems, and drive process improvements in a dynamic R&D environment.

The role requires a biology/chemistry/engineering background, strong data skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams to meet KPI targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, or another life science field.
• Valid driver’s license; driving record will be reviewed according to company guidelines.
• Proficiency with data analysis/visualization tools and workflow tracking systems.
• Experience in experimental design and high-throughput lab automation; able to troubleshoot automated systems.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork; able to adapt to changing priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; collaborative with teams.
• Preferred: 1+ year in high-throughput genotyping or production environments.
• Preferred: data-driven decision making and specialized reporting capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Meet daily and weekly genotyping objectives with high-quality data.
• Operate and maintain high-throughput laboratory automation technologies; troubleshoot as needed.
• Collaborate across platforms to support end-to-end genotyping workflows.
• Troubleshoot and improve lab processes; drive efficiency and continuous improvement.
• Design experiments and validate methods using multiple data sources.
• Follow protocols while operating complex instrumentation and maintain safety.
• Coordinate tasks, train colleagues, and maintain comprehensive records.
• Uphold strong safety culture and compliance in all lab activities.
