Job summary

Bayer (Schweiz) AG in Ankeny, Iowa, seeks a Research and Development Specialist II for the 2nd shift (Mon–Thu, 3pm–2am) to identify targets, study molecular biology, and execute high-throughput genotyping in a lab team focused on quality and safety.

The role requires a life-sciences degree and experience with automated laboratory systems; you will operate, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments, support cross-functional workflows, and drive process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, chemistry, engineering, or another life science field.
• Valid driver’s license; driving record reviewed per company policy.
• Proficiency with data analysis/visualization tools and workflow tracking systems.
• Experience in experimental design and execution, with high-throughput laboratory automation.
• Strong initiative, problem solving and collaboration skills.
• Excellent communication skills in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Meet daily and weekly genotyping objectives delivering high-quality data.
• Operate and troubleshoot high-throughput laboratory automation technologies.
• Participate in cross-functional work across platforms to support end-to-end workflows.
• Solve technical and operational challenges and drive process improvements.
• Design experiments and validate methods using multiple data sources.
• Adhere to protocols and maintain instrument safety and records.
• Coordinate tasks, train colleagues, and maintain records.
• Advocate safety and regulatory compliance in lab activities.
